Teaching Skills

	Structure all teaching episodes and provide clear objectives for learner
	Use teaching methods suitable to the level of the learners and strategies to actively involve learners
	Give constructive feedback to assist learners development
	Make assessments of learners based on objective criteria
	Listen actively to learners concerns or problems
	Employ measures to evaluate own teaching effectiveness and use feedback gained to plan action for self-development
	Demonstrate appropriate personal and professional values in all dealings with learners

Research Methodologies

	Demonstrate an understanding of the rationale for and limitations of research
	Be able to select the most appropriate research study method to answer a specific research question
	Be able to interpret p values, 95% confidence intervals, odds ratios, relative risk
	Be able to critique a scientific research-related paper
	Be able to write a research protocol and a research proposal

Clinical Governance & Risk Management

Informatics Skills

	Devise and run a clinically orientated search on Medline
	Use the internet to locate specific health information
	Use a spread sheet for a clinical application (e.g. an audit)
	Write a PowerPoint presentation
	Acknowledge the use of information and communication technology applications to improve the quality of clinical care

Medical Ethics and Law

	Apply legal and ethical principles to clinical practice
	Show awareness of the common law ‘tort of negligence’ in practice
	Communicate effectively to obtain informed consent from patients or relatives in undertaking daily clinical work
	Take account of the rights and interests of patients in clinical decisions
	Recognise own strengths and take action to address developmental needs
	Work within guidelines consistent with Human rights acts and conventions

Supervision Skills

	Make an assessment of the learning environment and relationships
	Check the fulfilment of the duties of the Educational Supervisor
	Construct an appropriate learning programme
	Utilise evaluative criteria to evaluate your current programme of training
	Make notes on your initial meeting
	Critically review your appraisal with notes for your future use
	Record in appropriate format a sample of formal and informal supervision episodes
	Assess your own progress in written form using suitable criteria
	Record notated meeting with Trainer discussing alternative training routes if progress is unsatisfactory
	Make evaluative notes on your exit meeting for future use

Management Learning
