Edinburgh undergraduate

We have 67 Teaching Practices of which 53 are active in the fully implemented new curriculum with a further 14 practices in a reserve capacity. We have a substantial presence in 4 of the 5 years of the undergraduate curriculum (years 1, 2, 4 & 5) and provide 12 weeks of input to core curriculum.

Year 1
The Health and Society course aims to introduce students to an understanding of key psychological, social, public health (epidemiology, health promotion and occupational health) and ethical concepts. It aims to apply these to health and illness behaviour, risks for ill health through the life cycle, and health care provision and utilisation. Features of the course include:

Year 2
The Introduction to Clinical Practice course aims to introduce the student, at an introductory and junior level, to the diagnostic and therapeutic skills that are central to the future practice of clinical medicine. It teaches diagnostic, therapeutic and practical skills. Important features of this course include:

Year 4
The Primary Care: Diagnosis course aims to enable students to acquire & develop the necessary clinical & organisational knowledge; clinical, communication, consultation & organisational skills; and patient centred professional attitudes so that they are able to effectively, efficiently and holistically evaluate and diagnose patients' health problems in general practice. Important features include:

Year 5
The Primary Care: Clinical Management course aims to enable the student to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to diagnose and treat, effectively and holistically, the wide range of patients who present to their general practitioner. It will entail:

bulletsupported by 19 'Year 2 plus 5' and 7 'Year 5 only' Teaching Practices
