Italy
Vocational training has been compulsory in Italy for ten years.
Starting from next year the course will last three years, instead of two, as
it has been up until now.
In Italy there are no University departments for general practice - every
region develops its own curriculum.
Since 2000, in Trento region, a competence based curriculum with a
learning-centred approach, has been implemented.
Now, the new three year curriculum includes the core competencies described
in the WONCA definition of general
practice/family medicine.
